Final Fantasy XIII is set in the futuristic world of Gran Pulse, focusing on Cocoon, a massive artificial sphere floating above Pulse. The game follows a group of outcasts, including former soldier Lightning, as they fight against the government of Cocoon, known as the Sanctum, to save Lightning's sister. The gameplay features a third-person perspective, allowing players to interact with the environment and enemies. The battle system introduces the Paradigm system, where players control one character while the others are controlled by AI.
