Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is a hack-and-slash action game. The plot involves an evil mage named Garm who, after releasing a powerful demon named Skorne, has his soul imprisoned. Players must travel through various realms to defeat Skorne and his minions. The game is an expansion of Gauntlet: Legends and includes content from both games.

- Character Classes: Players can choose from eight initial characters (Warrior, Valkyrie, Archer, Wizard, Sorceress, Knight, Dwarf, and Jester) with eight alternative modes to unlock.

- Combat: Classic Gauntlet gameplay with a focus on destroying enemies and their generators.
